National Hispanic Heritage Month 2022: Culture, Community, and Hope
This blog post is part of our “Stronger Together Oregon” blog series that focuses on communities of color in Oregon.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor Latinx communities through celebration, education, and reflection. During this time and all year long, we celebrate Latinx histories, cultures and achievements of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
At Boost Oregon, we honor and celebrate Hispanic communities everywhere. This year we would like to highlight three community organizations providing outstanding resources to Hispanic communities in Oregon. Latino Network offers culturally-specific services and education for Latinx community members throughout Oregon. This Latino-led group focuses on uplifting youth and families to attain their highest potential. Latino Network offers a wide variety of programs including arts and culture, early childhood education, health and wellness, and youth empowerment and violence prevention among others.
Mano a Mano Family Center is a nonprofit organization that serves Latinx communities in Marion and Polk counties. Their mission is to strengthen families by promoting resilience, hope, and reduction of stress among Latinx communities. Through the Family Wellness Program, Youth Empowerment Program, and the L.U.S. Youth Organization, among other services and resources, Mano a Mano Family Center places Latinx communities and youth at the forefront.
Edúcate Ya is a Portland based nonprofit organization that was founded in 2002 by Rafael Arellano-Barrera. Edúcate Ya strives to educate Latinx communities in Oregon and provide the resources Hispanic communities need to thrive and engage in leadership.
We encourage everyone to learn more about Hipanic culture, history, and achievements beyond National Hispanic Heritage Month. Please support Hispanic community organizations near you and share resources with others.
